Our mind is split into 2 parts, the conscious and the subconscious. The conscious is our logical part and the subconscious looks after us.
95% of our day is spent within the subconscious. From waking up, putting our feet on the floor, flicking on the kettle, getting dressed and eating breakfast and so on. We could class it as being on 'auto pilot'. We don't seem to appear to need to think about what we are doing, it happens naturally.
The subconscious is always working towards a positive intention for us even if it doesn't seem right or healthy to us. If we have created a bad habit as a coping mechanism, then the subconscious will continue to use this to keep us safe and happy as it has worked before.
Change always happens on the inside, in the subconscious. Old methods of hypnotherapy may have been to make authoritarian suggestions, tell the mind to change, which could meet with resistance as the subconscious thinks they are doing the best for you already. This may have been seen as replacing one habit with another, therefore if someone was trying to quit smoking they may begin overeating or drinking to fulfil the same intention.
With new techniques and understanding, I use a unique combination of both NLP and Hypnotherapy. Instead of telling the mind what we want, we are negotiating with it, keeping it happy thus removing the chance of resistance providing the you with a positive and fast change.
